The 浮線 revisited
An oil painting of Danshui by 陳澄波 (1895-1947), ca 1935. The delta浮線 is clearly seen - with Guanyin Mountain in the far background. It seems to be looking at 九崁仔街 from the top of the old 淡水公會堂.
poor artist, killed in the 228. his art work sells as much as US$2,000,000 a piece! I was making $30 a month as a graduate engineer in Taiwan Power Co. around 60s. Cho-San
I used to play in the ruins of 淡水公會堂 but never knew what it was for and why/how/when it was burned down. Now I know a bit more, e.g., Mr Chen and others had exhibitions here. This particular painting had won Mr Chen many prizes.
my mother took me together when she attended the 愛国婦人会 meeting. 陳秀英老師 put me on her lap to watch 遊芸会. those are two of my memories connected with 公会堂. somehow the round window of the public hall inspires me. do you know 陳秀英老師? cho-San
