Well-known painting incorrectly attributed to 第三世歌川国定Utagawa Kunisada III (1848-1920) while it was signed off with his original name 梅堂國政Baido Kunimasa who was aka 歌川国政Utagawa Kunimasa, etc
(Woodblock print - Sharf Collection, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston)
Incorrectly attributed at the museum?

Read the caption at the bottom.
It is nice and cool here in Boston, BTW.
First off, the link is absolutely stunning. If you want me to read those squiggles to the left, well . . . they give me a headache. My question is this: Did you see this in the museum? And another: If so, have you explained it to the people running the museum? What is the caption there?
回覆刪除Still, good eye, eyedoc.
Exhibitions at the MFA are theme-based. The Sharf collection with the said woodblock print was shown in 2001, see:

The English caption of the previous link simply identifies the artist's name as Utagawa Kunisada III. The next time it is on display, I might bring up the issue - just because I am a purist (and I refract myself).
